Tesla driver killed after crashing into pole in hit-and-run crash while racing with another driver: LAPD

The driver of a Tesla was killed late last month after crashing into a pole while apparently driving with another driver, who then fled the Lake Balboa scene, police said on Friday.

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on May 28 near Victory Boulevard and White Oak Avenue, when the Tesla driver “encountered a BMW sedan and was entering a speed race,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Tesla driver apparently lost control near Victory Boulevard and Encino Avenue, veered off the roadway and crashed into a light pole and tree, police said.

The BMW driver stopped, observed the aftermath of the crash, but did not get out. Instead, he or she sped west on the Victory, police said.

The Tesla driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was only described as being around 35 years old.

The BMW is wanted because it took part in speed races and hit-and-runs. The car is described as an M3 or M5 from 2011 to 2015, police said. It is lowered, with a modified exhaust and built-in spoiler.

A reward of up to $50,000 will be offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the driver’s identification, arrest and conviction.

Anyone with more information about the crash can call Detective Barragan, Valley Traffic Dept. at 818-644-8028 or Detective Davis at 818-644-8032.
