The Emmy-winning series has kept fans yearning for a third season since 2019, when the dark comedy wrapped up its second season on a steep cliffhanger. In our recap of the Season 2 finale Vikram Murthi wrote:
A sizzling finale, written by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, “berkman > block” caps a great television season, masterfully tying together all loose ends, even those discarded or buried, seamlessly connecting the show’s two worlds thematically and narratively. Most impressively, it never feels tidy or completed. On the contrary, the airtight writing only reinforces the emotional disorder and shows how the characters’ actions cannot be reduced to psychologically understandable explanations. Humans are driven by many conflicting passions, positive and negative behaviors, an overwhelming sense of self and an irrepressible impulse. Berg and Hader go to great lengths to capture the internal contradictions and their unfortunate consequences.
Alec Berg and Hader serve as co-creators, executive producers, directors and writers on the series. Season three returns Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Sarah Goldberg as Sally, Anthony Carrigan as Noho Hank, and Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau. The returning cast this season includes D’Arcy Carden as Natalie Greer and Michael Irby as Cristobal.
barry returns to HBO on April 24.
