SZA Reveals Her Ankle Broke After Her GRAMMY Win (Video)

The good always outweighs the bad! Yesterday was the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards and people aren’t talking about the eventful night – especially SZA! She and Doja Cat snagged their first prize for Best Performance by a Pop Duo Group for “Kiss Me More!” During the event, both trended online as fans spoke about Doja running out of the toilet to claim the award to accept, and SZA hobbled onto the stage with crutches.

While SZA did her best not to let the crutches outshine her, she shared that the injury was more severe than expected. Today she revealed her ankle was broken, although she initially thought it was sprained. “I broke the corner of my ankle bone while doing nothing,” she wrote on her Instagram story.

The “I Hate You” singer spoke to Billboard yesterday and explained how her ankle was injured. “It’s very funny because I fell out of bed just before it was time to go and get ready,” she said. “Like the day before, but that’s the way it works. Everything great in my life has always been very random, but it just adds to the energy.”

Punch, the president of SZA’s Top Dawg Entertainment label, also confirmed the news yesterday, tweeting that she almost didn’t attend the show. “Crazy day man. SZA sprained his ankle the night before the awards ceremony, hours before in fact. She almost canceled,” Punch wrote. “It was super inspiring to see her power through and make it to the back of the red carpet and then onto the stage on crutches to claim the trophy with Doja. Greeting.”

Although SZA is injured, she seems in good spirits. Six hours before announcing her health condition, she wrote a message thanking God, the Ancestors, her team and Doja for supporting her victory. We wish you a speedy recovery, SZA!
