STEUBEN COUNTY, IND. (WANE) — The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the driver of a hit-and-run accident Saturday night that took two boys to the hospital, one of whom is seriously injured.
Police said in a news release that the hit-and-run occurred in the 1500 block of West CR 275 N in the rural community of Pleasant. At around 8:55 p.m., the control center received the message that two pedestrians had been injured in an accident. The press release did not specify who called the report.
Police found an “unidentified vehicle” traveling eastbound on CR 275 N and struck two boys as they were walking down the lane. The driver of the accident drove away from the scene of the accident before first responders arrived.
Local officials found the boys near the road with “significant injuries,” according to the press release.
A 12-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. A 13-year-old boy was initially taken to the same hospital but was then flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for further treatment.
Police said the 13-year-old is currently in “serious condition”.
Victims’ names are being withheld until families are notified.
