Starbucks just made free coffee more expensive – Orange County Register

Inflation has hit Starbucks’ loyalty program.

Starting today, the Seattle-based coffee chain is making it harder for customers to redeem their rewards points or stars for free coffee drinks, pastries, and breakfast and lunch items.

New redemption levels sometimes require double the number of points.

For example:

— Previously, customers could redeem 50 stars for a brewed hot coffee or tea, baked goods or packaged snacks. These items now require 100 stars.

– Can no longer 150 stars redeemed for a complimentary craft beverage (latte, mocha, cold brew, etc.) or hot breakfast item (breakfast sandwiches, egg bites). They need it now 200 stars.

— Sandwiches and salads before in 200 stars level are now 300 stars Article.

Some tiers have remained the same or in some cases become cheaper:

— The lowest level remains unchanged. Customers can still customize their drink by adding syrup, an extra espresso shot, or a non-dairy alternative 25 stars.

— Iced tea and coffee, which used to be required 150 starshas become 100 stars Article.

— Packaged coffee is now required 300 stars instead of 400.

Starbucks Rewards members received the news via email in December, with a reminder this weekend.

Customers earn one star for every dollar purchased, or two stars when using a registered Starbucks card.
