A social security check in Vacaville on Friday night resulted in a suspect being barricaded, the deployment of SWAT and crisis negotiation teams, and an arrest.

The events happened around 7:30 p.m. when officers responded to a residence on Novato Drive on Markham Avenue after a request for welfare.

Officers learned an attack had taken place, police said, and the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home.

According to media reports, one person was injured, but the suspect was alone in the apartment.

The police special forces were deployed and attempted to negotiate with the suspect. Talks, officials said, were unsuccessful.

Ultimately, chemical agents were released into the home and the suspect, identified only as a 57-year-old man from Vacaville, was arrested.

The matter will be further investigated.

After a short evacuation order, the neighbors were later allowed to return to their homes.
