Simon Jordan says Dele Alli is ‘a waste of time’ for Everton, says former Tottenham midfielder must be ’embarrassed’ and Frank Lampard should ‘look after himself’

Simon Jordan believes Dele Alli’s January transfer to Everton was a “waste of time” and Frank Lampard should “look at himself” after putting the struggling midfielder in a relegation battle.

The 25-year-old joined Goodison Park as he was looking for a way to boost his career after losing form and playing time at Tottenham but things didn’t go to plan.

Alli has played six games since joining Merseyside – all in the Premier League – but has yet to start a game and has not scored or assisted.

The Toffees are just three points behind the relegation zone and have two games in hand on those below – including a must-win meeting against 19th-placed Burnley.

Frank Lampard’s struggling side meet Sean Dyche’s Clarets in this Wednesday’s Crunch match at Turf Moor and each side will be desperate to take all three points in a bid to get closer to survival.

Jordan, Jim White and Danny Murphy discussed Everton’s chances of survival on The White and Jordan Show on Monday, with the trio questioning what led to Everton’s flirting with relegation.

One issue raised by the hosts was the lack of quality players being recruited in the January window and the conversation then turned to the signing of former Spurs star Alli.

The ex-MK Dons prodigy was once again left out of Lampard’s starting XI in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by West Ham, leading to the Toffees boss declaring his absence from the side.

“Dele needs to train and show that’s how he thinks,” said the former Chelsea manager after the team’s announcement. “Every time he comes on, he has to show that he’s worth starting a game.

“When the time is right and I feel like he’s there, he’s going to help the team and he’s going to do it [fight for Everton].”

When asked by White what was going on with the midfielder, Jordan gave a typically brutal and honest reply.

“He’s been there for two months, he’s a complete waste of time,” said the former Crystal Palace chairman.

“He was a waste of time at Tottenham for two years, he was a waste of time when he signed for Everton. It was a waste of time signing.”

Jordan went on to explain that while he harbors sympathy for Alli as he had high expectations of him as a youngster, the host went on to state that the player should be “embarrassing” now.

“I hope I’m wrong because the kid was talented,” he said. “I don’t think he’s ever been at the level that people have built him to and said he’s the best No. 10 in the world.

“… He’s in a situation now where he’s been kicked out of Tottenham. The only reason Everton took him was because the actual fee itself was deferred and played onto the long grass based on performance.

“So, based on performance, Everton gets a discount. The kid must be embarrassed. Is there a certain level of professional pride?

“You were booted out of Tottenham, two or three managers didn’t want you… I think Frank Lampard should look at himself for signing players like Dele Alli because he needed help, not an aggravation of the problem.”

Jordan then explained that should Alli use his move to Everton as a ‘last chance’ to revive his career, he will be wasting his own time if he can’t get playing time with the relegation-struggling side.

He added: “If this kid has gone to Everton and is in the last chance to get close to him and this is the by-product of that, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be chewing on the bit.

“There is no reason why he shouldn’t be fit enough or competitive enough to go to this side because this Everton side is poor.

“Dele Alli, you are looking at someone who is wasting everyone’s time, especially his own.”
