Jazmine Sullivan is one of the best R&B artists in the game and that’s why you’d think she’d have loads of GRAMMY awards, but alas, you’re wrong…so far. After multiple nominations and multiple losses, Jazmine Sullivan finally received not one, but two GRAMMY awards for her incredible album, Heaux Tales.
It’s been a long, hard road, but after 15 losses, R&B powerhouse Jazmine Sullivan finally had her GRAMMY moment. Courtesy of her chart-topping and critically acclaimed album Heaux Tales, she took home her first and second trophies from the ceremony.
She won both Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance (where she tied with multiple winner Silk Sonic) and Jazmine’s wins were the perfect icing on an amazing musical era for her. When her album was first released early last year, her fans were immediately convinced it was GRAMMY material… and based on what happened at today’s ceremony, they were right.
During her acceptance speech for winning Best R&B Album, Jazmine offered a warm shout out to black women:
“I think I wrote this project to deal with my own shame and unforgiveness about some of the decisions I made in my 20s that weren’t favorable. And thank you But in the end, it was a safe place for black women to tell their stories. So that we can learn from each other, laugh together and not be taken advantage of at the same time. And for that I am most grateful. So salute to all black women just living their lives and being beautiful. i love you all
Thank you to everyone who helped me make Heaux Tales, to the producers, the co-writers, to RCA and Sony Music, to my management, to my mom and dad who I love dearly and can’t wait to see my friends and family, everyone back in Philly, my fans, my husband, everyone. Thank you, I appreciate that.”
We want to extend our congratulations to Jazmine Sullivan and all of her #BlackGirlMagic!
