Sharon Osbourne will join Piers Morgan at TalkTV after leaving CBSThe conversation following backlash for moderator’s defense.
The TV personality left her regular spot on CBS’s daytime talk show last March after a heated on-air debate about racism with co-host Sheryl Underwood, in which Osbourne defended Morgan.
At the time, Morgan was embroiled in a high-profile commentary controversy Good morning Britain on Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
On Thursday (March 17) it was announced that Osbourne would be hosting her own hour-long current affairs program – aka The conversation – Weeknights on Rupert Murdoch’s new channel where she would be joined by five “strong opinionated famous faces”.
In a clip shared to her Instagram, Morgan explains, “What I’m really looking for in my colleagues at TalkTV is someone who’s, well, a little bit like me. Very opinionated, fearless, funny, knows her own opinion, not afraid to speak it out, unpredictable, maybe a little dangerous. But also someone who makes global headlines every time he opens his mouth.”
Osbourne then appears next to him and says, “Um, where do I sign Piers?”
An official statement from Osbourne also said: “I look forward to working with News UK, the panel and my good friend Piers. Watch some exciting and lively debates from all of us in this area.”
Osbourne left CBS The conversation two weeks after her clash with Underwood, in which Osbourne’s co-host said she gave “racist views” in her endorsement of Morgan’s “affirmation”.
Osbourne was accused of “gaslighting” Underwood and later apologized for the episode, saying she “felt blind” and took over her “fear and horror of being accused of being racist.”
Morgan had said more GMB that he hadn’t believed Markle in her comments, that she was having suicidal thoughts and prompted more than 41,000 Ofcom complaints, including Markle.
He left the ITV daytime show three days after the comments were made and announced he is joining TalkTV in September. The channel is scheduled to launch early this year.
