Servers dressed as Power Rangers save a woman from an attack at Noka Ramen restaurant in Oakland, California

OAKLAND, California — Employees at a new Bay Area restaurant dressed as Power Rangers jumped into action and became real-life superheroes by fending off an attacker who was choking a woman.
The whole incident was documented in a now viral series of tweets from a woman over dinner.
As if the sight of a ’90s superhero taking orders or throwing drinks at a bar wasn’t amazing enough, what happened at around 8pm on Friday at Noka Ramen in Oakland could be dubbed “Morphing Time”!
“When something surprising comes out, you’re not sure if it’s real,” Ploi Pirapoken, a diner who witnessed the attack, told our sister broadcaster KGO via Zoom.
According to Pirapoken Twitter threada woman ran into the Thai restaurant for help, “and a man came running after her and put her in a choke hold.”
Then all servers/power rangers moved in to de-escalate the situation. The Black and Yellow Rangers told the man to leave, and the attacker began hurling punches and kicks at them, according to Pirapoken’s tweets. Pirapoken said the man even started shouting anti-Asian insults and the Yellow Ranger dragged him out of the restaurant by the collar.
Eventually, the community spirit kicked in, and even customers began to “morph” as well.
“The patrons started getting involved in a way that was supportive and made sure everyone was safe,” Pirapoken said.
Outside, the attacker then begins to “pick up chairs, child seats & salt and pepper shakers to throw at the windows.” The Rangers eventually piled on the man until police showed up, Pirapoken said.
Oakland police confirm to KGO that they arrested the man, believing he was in a mental health crisis, and took him for medical treatment.

Pirapoken, who is Thai herself, said what she saw was an example of how fun, Thai spirit and the need to help others come to life.
“Thai people are very playful. We love to laugh. Whether it’s to create harmony or balance, that’s our ethos. It’s how we approach something that’s scary, shocking or surprising. There’s something in us that makes us laugh bring to try to keep the peace a way.”
While the costumes – which are an ode to the restaurant’s signature cocktails, served in ranger-shaped vessels – are only worn on Fridays, they’re a reminder that it’s always ‘morphing’ time at Noka.
As they say on the famous show, “May the force protect you.”
