Schwimmer dies at Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach – Orange County Register

The body of an unidentified swimmer was recovered by OC lifeguards from the sea off Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna Beach just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, officials said.
The female was seen around 4:49 p.m. near another swimmer near the south end of the beach near the sea cave, Lt. Cornelius Ashton of the Laguna Beach Police Department.
“Lifeguards were able to save one but not the other,” he said. The surf was at around three to four foot waves on Wednesday.
After the woman disappeared into the water, other organizations helped, including other OC lifeguards, some dive teams and Laguna Beach lifeguards. The Laguna Beach Fire Department and police were at the scene, as were the Orange County Fire Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter Duke and his harbor patrol.
The Orange County coroner has been called to the beach at Three Arch Bay, just around the bend in the cliff that separates it from Thousand Steps Beach.
The swimmer’s identity and age have not been released, Ashton said pending notification of her family.
