Throngs from allies, online and in person, were is pleased to welcome Adnan Syed back returned from prison this week when he was released after two decades in prison Murder he may not have committed. Among those supporters were many “very thirsty” ladies, according to a tweet from his childhood friend and advocate Rabia Chaudry.

My first reaction is to TSK tsk these horny women for inquiring about a man who has house arrest for the next month. What’s your plan? Waving at him from his lawn? At the same time, who am i to be ashamed of People trying to spit venison at a man released from prison? Being horny and curious is not a crime.

Also, it is nothing new for women to desire, meet and marry incarcerated men. Kenneth Bianchi and the two Menendez brothers married Women they met by writing letters while incarcerated. Bianchi’s wife even stalked Ted Bundy, before targeting the Hillside Strangler. These were men who definitely committed the crimes for which they were convicted, which cannot be said of Syed. There is a whole ass book called Women Who Love Men Who Kill: 35 True Stories of Prison Passion. An old article in the Guardian described the timeless appeal such relationships: They “retain the intoxicating elements present in every romance” and “never have to go beyond that courtship stage” or “translate into the ordinariness of sex and marriage.”

I think part of Syed’s fascination is this projected and protected fantasy of wanting someone locked away. In addition, there is substantial evidence that he did not commit his crime. It’s not just good for him and for whomhe may be a partner one day, but it increases some people’s fondness for defending a partner who has been wronged. It’s that us against the world mentality that doesn’t fully take that into account “us” contains a hit podcast. If some of the prospects have been staunch supporters in Syed’s case since then Serial premiered, the swarm contains nearly a decade of campaigning for him. That’s enough time to develop a parasocial relationship with someone.

Why are women texting Chaudry about his availability? I don’t know for sure, although I have a few guesses: For one thing, she’s a vocal supporter and close friend of Syed, her best chance of getting close to him; sHe has also written about his love life in the past.

While Syed was in prison, Chaudry blogged “Split the Moon,” in which She described the case and life of her friend. In the fall of 2015 she has Posted about talking to Syed’s ex-wife, a woman he married and divorced in prison. Chaudry referred to her as “K,” and while Chaudry doesn’t know why K and Syed broke up, she knows K “still loves him and would marry him again when he comes home”. If that’s still the case, ladies, it’s time to pack your bags. After her conversation with K, Chaudry ebulliently decided that Syed “has a heart of gold like I never imagined.” So I wouldn’t say Chaudry is not fan the flames.

Chaudry has positioned herself as the leading expert on Syed’s romantic life, enough for her to know it’s him Not is interested in meeting (I don’t blame him – he has a lot of catching up to do, like all successor). But there’s no point in asking her again –she is closed that door. My advice to failed potentials Worshipers use some of this pent-Gather strength to help other wrongly convicted prisoners to be released.
