Ronnie O’Sullivan suffers from injury fears ahead of the World Cup

O’Sullivan was due to meet David Grace in the second round of the World Snooker Tour Classic in Leicester on Sunday night but has pulled out with an elbow injury.

The 47-year-old, who defeated Egypt’s Mohamed Ibrahim 4-2 in the first round, wrote on Twitter: “Really disappointed but had to retire due to an elbow injury and hope to be back as soon as possible.”

The World Championship begins on April 15th at the Crucible in Sheffield.

O’Sullivan defeated Judd Trump 18-13 in last year’s finals to win his seventh title. In doing so, he matched Stephen Hendry’s record total and also became the oldest winner.

His departure from Leicester ended his chances of qualifying for the Duelbits Tour Championship in Hull, which will be played from March 27th to April 2nd.
