Except that he’s slowly morphing into his character Parks & Recreation like he’s a minor character The office need a podcast, Rob Lowe has a lot on his plate, and he’s only adding more. The star of 9-1-1: Lone Star will join his son John Owen Lowe in a new series for Netflix Unstable. Co-created by Lowe, his son John Owen Lowe and Victor Fresco, Unstable is about “an introverted, socially disadvantaged son who works to save his highly successful, wildly eccentric father from disaster” at a leading biotech research firm.
Outside of the household, the Lowes have worked together for years. The older Lowe is currently starring Lone Star, with his son serving as the show’s story editor. Before that John Owen Lowe was a recurring guest star on the one-season masterpiece sitcom The grinderthe next Wayne’s world, is still Rob Lowe’s best use to date. The father-son duo also starred in one of those fake Hallmark Christmas movies that Netflix puts out every winter. Vacation in the wilderness.
Meanwhile, Victor Fresco is something of a TV pro, especially when it comes to high-profile cult-favorite comedies — talthough his shows never seem to last too long. His last project Santa Clarita Diet, which saw Drew Barrymore as a suburban zombie, ran on Netflix for three seasons. Before that he was known for Better off Ted and the brilliant Andy Richter controls the universe. A show about an introverted son trying to save his eccentric father’s biotech company sounds perfect for Freco.
The show is “inspired by Rob and John Owen Lowe’s social media relationship, where John Owen often humorously trolls his father. Her posts often go viral and have received extensive media coverage.” This is the first time we’ve heard from her Ryan Reynolds on social media, so we’ll take her word for it.
