Again – with feeling.
In their fourth and final meeting with the Dallas Mavericks, the Clippers had more fitness in defense and across the board and, with a flourishing Reggie Jackson late in the fourth round to propel them ahead, took the win. 99-97 from Luka Doncic and his Dallas Mavericks.
The Clippers (28-30) avoided their first four-loss streak of the season and clinched a four-game winning streak by hosts the Mavs (33-24) in front of 20,028 fans on Saturday at American Airlines Center.
Jackson (who had eight of his 24 points in the final period) helped nail, drive a float, a layup and then bury a straight 3-pointer and take a free throw in the final 2:08 to hit the Clippers’ net leading to 97-89.
He also successfully played in the box for 5 seconds and before being fouled (he took one of his free throws) to help preserve the advantage after Doncic – who scored 23 in total. His 45 points in the fourth inning – got in on his own. to give Dallas a chance.
Doncic converted a 3-point and 1-foot-7 play to narrow the Clippers’ lead to 98-97.
But his 33-meter 3-point effort against the outstretched arms of Jackson and Marcus Morris Sr. failed, and the Clippers exhaled, the reward being the victory of a night of hard work.
A game after igniting Tyronn Lue’s team with a career-high 51 (28 of which came in the first quarter) Doncic shot 15 for 33 and 6 for 13 from 3 against the Clippers’ crowded defense – offense vi begins and often includes the 7-foot Ivica Zubac – by design.
And though he has eclipsed 40 points for the fourth time this season — plus 15 rebounds and eight assists — that looks different, Lue said.
Zubac also bounced on Saturday, with 11 rebounds along with his 10 points (his 14th double this season). As a team, the Clippers raked in 42 rebounds – 11 more than on Thursday.
Terance Mann helped Zubac clear the glass, finishing with 9 rebounds – a great addition to his season-high 21, his first 20-point game since his 39-point effort. against the Utah Jazz in Game 6 of the second Western Conference- round series.
The Clippers also got 20 points from Morris and 11 from the bench from Amir Coffey.
