Redford Apartment Fire: A man smashes windows to save residents from a massive apartment fire in southeast Houston

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — A massive apartment fire forced residents to evacuate overnight in southeast Houston.
On Saturday night, crews responded to a fire in an apartment complex at 1201 Redford Street.
Houston TranStar cameras captured the flames, which could be seen from the Gulf Freeway as several first responders swarmed the area.
A man said he woke up this morning after being told there was an apartment fire nearby. He said he broke the residents’ windows to save them.
“My grandma was like, ‘Are there people in the building?’ So I was like, ‘I have to get them out,'” said one man. “The (firefighters) weren’t here yet. They came here after I got around the building.
A woman told ABC13 the fire that started at her home was rattled after she escaped the blaze.
She told ABC13 she doesn’t remember getting out of the building and is concerned for her dog, who may still be in the building, along with memorials such as wedding photos with her late husband.
It is unclear what exactly led to the fire and how many people were displaced.
This is an evolving story.
