Rebranded famous Scottish chips

Chips and popcorn formerly sold as Mackie’s are sold under the new Taylors Snacks brand in supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

The listings follow a widely publicized name change last month following the end of a long-standing joint venture between Scottish family companies Taylor and Mackie.

Taylors, a fourth-generation family farm, took full control of the Mackie’s at Taypack joint venture last year.

Although the products have been rebranded, the recipe for the chips and popcorn remains the same and will continue to be made by Taylors at their Perthshire farm.

More than 500,000 packs of chips are sold each week, and Taylors hopes to increase that number.

The range, which ranges from pickled onions to sea salt, is sold in Morrisons, Asda and convenience stores across Scotland, in addition to Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Further specialist dealers are planned.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Taylors Snacks, said: “We have been on a journey over the past year, honing our knowledge of the market and creating a brand of Taylors that we are all so proud of.” We are delighted that some of the country’s leading supermarkets embraced the new look immediately.

“By placing them on snack shelves across the country, we hope new customers will fall in love with our products while keeping the chips accessible to our long-time customers.”

Taylors Snacks has invested more than £400,000 in TV, radio and digital out-of-home advertising to promote the new brand over the next six months. As part of the campaign, the chips will be advertised on national television for the first time.

Mr Taylor added: “Our main goal is to become a brand for home snacks across the UK – and with a lot of work to do at Taylors Snacks at the moment, we think we’re on the right track.”

“The confidence of some major retailers shows that we are in a strong position at Taylors Snacks right now and we can’t wait to continue growing our brilliant brand.”

Based in Perthshire, Taylors-Mackie’s joint venture was formed in 2009.

Mackie’s continues to produce ice cream and chocolate under his name at his farm in Aberdeenshire.
