Supporters from the Spanish side tried to climb into the home team
Betis went level at the break after Ayoze Perez equalized Marcus Rashford’s opener before Antony, Bruno Fernandes and Wout Weghorst scored in the second half.
And just after Weghorst scored in the 83rd minute, some of the visiting supporters emerged to try to climb over the barriers to get at home loyalty.
The Dutchman had celebrated boisterously in front of the visiting fans after his shot into the back net from close range, but he didn’t try to upset them.
talkSPORT pundit and ex-Sunderland left-back Michael Gray was at the game where he revealed bottles and seats were thrown at United fans.
He said on air: “There are some really ugly scenes from the Real Betis fans trying to jump over the stewards.
“And bottles are being thrown into the Manchester United end from the Betis end, it’s all coming from the Spanish side.
“There are seats and everything is going now, they are pulling out the seats, they are throwing the backs of the seats over to the Manchester United fans.
“It’s ugly scenes at Old Trafford – they’re frustrated after the fourth goal was scored for Manchester United.
“It’s not nice to see.”
Betis fans eventually failed to rush into the home side as police quickly moved in to clear them away in a fiery confrontation.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic stated that a fan removed his belt and attempted to whip a United supporter over the green net.
Meanwhile, The Sun has reported how a fan repeatedly spat towards the home end.
Shocking images have shown the angry clash between police and stewards with Betis fans as tensions boiled over at the Theater of Dreams.
Footage of the ugly scenes went viral on social media, with one clip showing a line of stewards at the barrier separating both groups of supporters.
And in another video shared on Twitter, riot police and fans could be seen engaging in heated scuffles. A statement from the police is still pending.
Betis could now be punished for the actions of his fans, with attention now turning to the reception United fans will get in Spain ahead of next Thursday’s second leg.
