The band played with Paul Rodgers during the “Rock the Cosmos Tour” in Ukraine, with a live album and accompanying DVD of the show being released the following year.

“Queen and Paul Rodgers Live in Ukraine” was made available on March 19 from 5pm on the band’s official UK YouTube channel.

Brian May originally shared a mass photo from the performance on his Instagram in February and wrote: “So many great memories from great times in Ukraine. This picture is from our unforgettable show night on Freedom Square in Kharkiv in 2008.

“It seems unbelievable that the peaceful life of Ukraine in the 21st century can be so senselessly destroyed. And it feels unbearable that the world could just watch and let it happen. We all pray for peace on you, dear friends.”

Announcing the fundraiser, both May and Roger Taylor wrote on their respective Instagram accounts: “In September 2008, Queen and Paul Rodgers responded to a call from Elena Pinchuk’s Ukraine Anti-AIDS Foundation to send the message to the country’s youth Don’t Let AIDS Ruin Your Life by playing a free Life Must Go On AIDS awareness concert on Kharkiv’s historic Freedom Square to a live audience of more than 350,000 – and a television audience of more than 10 million. “

They continued, “The band remembers this event as ‘an unforgettable experience… one of those rare things in life that you know you’ll never forget. A meeting in music, but also a coming together to fight against a common enemy…’”

“Today, as millions of Ukrainian refugees are in dire need of humanitarian assistance from another ailment, Queen returns to her historic moment with a special YouTube screening to raise funds for UNHCR’s relief efforts.”

Elsewhere, Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello have been announced for ITVs Concert for Ukraine next week in support of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Humanitarian Appeal in Ukraine. You can find tickets here.
