Quantumania is the latest victim of an oddly specific curse in the film trilogy

What went wrong Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania? That’s the question Marvel fans are asking right now after the latest MCU movie opened to frankly pretty terrible reviews. The first two Paul Rudd vehicles were charmingly understated affairs (for Marvel), but the Threequel unfortunately trades that minor appeal for an awkward attempt at moving franchise furniture. However, the real reason it flopped could be because it fell victim to Hollywood’s most specific curse.

As Twitter user @hueb_marcelo hilariously noted in a mind-blowing tweet, Quantumania is the latest example of a 2020s film trilogy that ends with its least popular entry. First there was Jurassic World: Dominion and then Halloween kills and now ant man 3. But what do these three films have in common? They all kicked Judy Greer out of their casts and proved they paid the ultimate price for it. As the OP says, “Do Judy Greer wrong and you’ll be cursed.”

To further add to the irony, Greer’s roles in all three franchises — despite coming from wildly different genres — are pretty much identical. In each, the actress plays the largely marginalized mother of the main characters of the film’s children or teenagers… before the series loses interest in her and summarily removes her from the equation in later episodes.

Apparently, Greer made some sort of dark pact with the movie gods to ensure anyone who wronged her was punished. To placate these cinephile Cthulu-esque creatures, Hollywood execs may need to start casting Greer in everything that, frankly, we’d be perfectly fine with.
