PSG line-up shocks £50m Harry Maguire as Manchester United defender ponders Old Trafford future

Harry Maguire has emerged as the shock £50m transfer target for French champions Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

According to SunSport, a deal for the Manchester United captain was “on the table” during the January transfer window but the club failed to complete a transfer in time.

However, a move this summer is not off the table with Maguire unable to interfere with manager Erik ten Hag’s plans at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old has just over two years left on his existing contract but with the Dutchman preferring a central defensive pairing of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, Maguire is now considering his future at the club.

Maguire has started one of United’s last eight games and played just two minutes in the club’s Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle.

PSG need to match the England international’s £200,000-week wage which is not seen as a stumbling block.

Another autopsy is underway for the Ligue 1 leaders following Bayern Munich’s recent early exit from the Champions League on Wednesday.

The French giants have lacked a central defender this season and their decision not to step up their options in January came back to bite them midweek when Marquinhos and Nordi Mukiele both limped away injured.

Presnel Kimpembe is already out until the autumn after tearing his Achilles tendon last month, while Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar will join the club on a free transfer this summer.

Boss Christophe Galtier has seen a 5-3-2 formation bear fruit and with doubts over Sergio Ramos’ future, Maguire could be part of a fresh throwback to three next season.

Despite Maguire’s lack of playing time at Old Trafford, England boss Gareth Southgate continues to have faith in the former Leicester City star.

He is expected to be selected for the Three Lions in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers later this month.
