Prisons order crackdowns on partners who wear naughty clothes during visits and unveil new guidelines

Prison officials have ordered a crackdown on wives and girlfriends who wear revealing or naughty clothing during visits.

They have issued new guidelines warning visitors that they will not be allowed in if they are wearing indecent clothing.

Figure-hugging dresses, crop tops, mini skirts and high-waisted shorts are prohibited.

Also banned under the nationwide rules are T-shirts with offensive graphics, such as cannabis leaves.

Wags are also instructed to wear sensible underwear.

Some prisons go even further, banning football shirts and hoodies, as well as fitness trackers and flip-flops.

A prison source said: ‘Some of the items of clothing that visitors arrived in to see their partners didn’t leave much to the imagination.

“I was in the visitors’ hall, where a woman was walking in what was probably the smallest miniskirt imaginable.

“She got a round of applause from the inmates, but it caused a little disruption.

“While this may be fun for some inmates, others who are very religious will find it deeply offensive.”

Maximum security prisons such as HMP Frankland in Co Durham and Belmarsh in London are included in the raid.

HMP Oakwood in Staffs, in its guidance, prohibits see-through pants or tops – and skirts should not be above the knee.

And in Wales, visitors to HMP Berwyn are given a leaflet telling them: “Tops must cover both breasts and the stomach area.”

The Prison Service said: “Dress codes for visitors help maintain security and order throughout prison grounds.”
