Powerball numbers for Wednesday 2nd November draw

(NEXSTAR) – The Powerball jackpot has not been hit since August, allowing the prize to reach $1.2 billion ahead of Wednesday’s draw.

If a ticket matches the winning numbers shown below, the winner has landed the second largest jackpot in Powerball history and the fourth largest lottery prize in US history.

Here are the winning numbers from Wednesday’s draw: 2, 11, 22, 35 and 60, plus the Powerball number 23.

This is the second lottery prize to break the $1 billion mark this year.

In July, the Mega Millions jackpot hit a historic $1.34 billion. It was the nation’s third largest lottery prize and went unclaimed until September, when two Illinois winners came forward to collect it.

If no ticket matches all six numbers above, the Powerball jackpot will approach and possibly surpass the record $1.586 billion won by three Powerball players in 2016, which is also the largest lottery win, the nation has ever seen.

Here are the 10 biggest Powerball jackpots so far:

  1. $1.586 billion: January 13, 2016 (CA, FL, TN)
  2. $1.2 billion (est.): November 2, 2022
  3. $768.4 million: March 27, 2019 (WI)
  4. $758.7 million: August 23, 2017 (MA)
  5. $731.1 million: January 20, 2021 (MD)
  6. $699.8 million: October 4, 2021 (CA)
  7. $687.8 million: October 27, 2018 (IA, NY)
  8. $632.6 million: January 5, 2022 (CA, WI)
  9. $590.5 million: May 18, 2013 (FL)
  10. $587.5 million: November 28, 2012 (AZ, MO)

By the looks of it, $1.2 billion is the fourth largest lottery win in US history, falling behind two Mega Millions jackpots.

If you’re lucky enough to hit the jackpot, you can get your pot as an annuity (30 staggered payments over 29 years) or as a lump sum. According to Powerball, the jackpot has a cash value of $596.7 million.

However, you might want to think twice before availing the cash option. Huge jackpot winners almost always take the money, and financial advisors say this could be a mistake.

Nicholas Bunio, a board-certified financial planner from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, said he would take an annuity despite his expertise because it would so dramatically reduce his risk of making bad investment decisions.

“It allows you to make a mistake here and there,” Bunio said. “People don’t understand that there is potential for loss. They just focus on the profit potential.”

The gap between cash and annuity options has widened because inflation has caused interest rates to rise, which in turn leads to potentially greater investment gains. With annuities, the jackpot cash is essentially invested and then paid out to winners over three decades.

Under the retirement plan, winners receive an immediate payment and then 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year, eventually reaching the $1.2 billion total.

Officials are urging anyone lucky enough to win a Powerball jackpot to consult a financial advisor — while keeping that prized ticket safe — before showing up at a lottery office for an oversized check.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as in Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
