A man arrested in connection with a New IRA plea of guilty to the shooting death of senior PSNI detective John Caldwell has been released.

The man was arrested in Derry on Saturday.

A PSNI spokesman said: “A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with allegations of responsibility for the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell has been released after questioning. The investigations are ongoing.”

Last month a typed message was posted on a wall in Derry, allegedly from the New IRA claiming responsibility for the attempted murder of Mr Caldwell.

Police said the New IRA was the main line of inquiry in the investigation.
