Police officer shoots man who pointed gun at officers while trying to steal catalyst: sources

CHICAGO — Chicago Police Department are investigating a report of shots fired by an off-duty officer overnight.
Police were responding to a call for a shot fired just before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of West Grace. Upon arrival, a man — sources say an off-duty police officer — told officers he saw several people attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.
One of the male perpetrators then pointed a gun at the man after realizing he was nearby.
According to police, the off-duty officer drew his firearm and shot the perpetrator. The perpetrators then got into several vehicles and fled the scene, police said.
The off-duty officer was unharmed and was taken to a local hospital for chest pains.
No one is in custody and Area Five Detectives are investigating.
