Planned Parenthood Blames Blondes as ‘Anti-Abortion Propaganda’

Ana De Armas in Blonde

Planned Parenthood has joined the chorus of voices with not much Positive things to say about Netflix’s new Marilyn Monroe biopic Blondgives an interview today tHe describes the film as “anti-abortion propaganda”.

This is per THR, which reached out to the Reproductive Rights Organization for comment on Andrew Dominik’s new film, which stars Ana De Armas as a version of the legendary Hollywood star and portrays two illegal abortions as part of the web of trauma leading up to Monroe’s death led. (Including CGI speaking fetuses saying things like, “You won’t hurt me this time, will you?”)

in response, Caren Spruch, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s national director of arts and entertainment engagement, said THR “Because film and television are shaping many people’s understanding of sexual and reproductive health, it is important that these portrayals accurately reflect women’s true choices and experiences. While abortion is a safe and essential health care proposition, anti-abortion advocates have long contributed to the stigma surrounding abortion by using medically inaccurate descriptions of fetuses and pregnancy. Andrew Dominik’s new movie, Blondbacks up her message with a CGI speaking fetus that looks like a fully developed baby.”

Slogan added:

Planned Parenthood respects artistic freedom and freedom. However, false images only serve to reinforce misinformation and perpetuate stigma surrounding sexual and reproductive health care. Every pregnancy outcome – especially an abortion – should be presented in the media in a sensitive, authentic and accurate manner. We still have work to do to ensure everyone who has an abortion can see themselves on screen. Too bad the creators of Blond decided to contribute to anti-abortion propaganda and instead stigmatize people’s health choices.

Dominik has come under fire both for the content of the film itself – based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates – and for it for the press he gave about itin which he is suggested a kind of basic disdain for Monroe’s various films. Addressing the issue of abortion in a recent interview with The wraphe suggested that the film is not against the election, and that misfortune at his representation of abortion was rooted in the recent overthrow of the Supreme Court Roe v. Calf. “NNo one would have given a damn if I had made the film in 2008 and probably four years from now, no one will.” Planned Parenthood Blames Blondes as ‘Anti-Abortion Propaganda’
