For some reason, Hollywood is once again full of rumors and Predictions on who should be the next actor to play James Bond (Historians will note that there must always be a James Bond, and that bad things will happen if humanity goes too long without the appointment of a new James Bond), and that means many people are forced to answer the question who they think should be next person (See what we did there?) to take on the suits and the martinis and the Walther PPK. Series producer Barbara Broccoli recently said they’re looking for an actor like Daniel Craig who’s ready (or, in Craig’s case, half-way). to sit in the franchise for over a decadewhich means whoever they cast must be pretty serious.
Ex-James Bond star Pierce Brosnan actually has one hot take on all of this: he doesn’t give a shit and doesn’t really care who’s going to be the next James Bond. Stars, they are just like us! (Or at least some of us, especially those of us who are already tired of debating another round of “Who Should Play James Bond?!”.)
Brosnan offered his refreshing reply during one GQ profile about him and his handsome sons and preempted the question of who should play James Bond, saying: “Who should do it? I don’t care.” He went on to say that “it’ll be interesting to see who they get,” starring GQ He noted that he said it “in a tone that suggests maybe it’s not that interesting.” He also said that he loves skyfall but wasn’t “too sure about the last one” (2021 is underestimated no time to diepresumably) by simply saying, “Daniel [Craig] always gives from his heart. Very brave, very strong. But…” And that was it.
More people in Hollywood should be willing to just not bother with this stuff. Martin Scorsese probably spends less than five minutes of his entire year thinking about superhero films, but because he had to comment on his opinions on them, it was put on the public record, and now we can’t escape him. Speaking of superhero movies, here’s how Brosnan described his role in the upcoming one Black Adam to GQ: “Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson, DC Comics. i play dr Fate.” Beautiful, and not because it comes from a place of disapproval or judgment. That’s because it’s coming from a place of real cool disinterest, like some sort of 70-year-old Irish Gen-Xer. Hey, maybe this guy should play James Bond?
