Pick up a pickup load of firewood at Mississinewa Lake for $10

FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) It might be quite a drive for some people, but it’s hard to argue that a $10 pickup truck full of firewood isn’t a good deal.
That’s the cost of anyone wanting to cut down and remove fallen trees in the 1812 fields on Mississinewa Lake in Miami County. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources requires a permit, which can be obtained from the Mississinewa Lake Park Office for each load between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm daily. Permits are not available on public holidays or weekends.
Trees suitable for firewood have fallen due to natural causes or were dropped by property personnel. They are located on roadsides or in public areas such as campgrounds and picnic areas.
Permit sales and cutting are possible from February 6th to March 31st.
Firewood may be cut up to 30 feet from the curb in designated areas; However, vehicles are not allowed off-road. Use of tractors, UTVs and ATVs is prohibited. Wood can be felled and taken away daily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact the Mississinewa Lake office at 765-473-6528.
