The safety lock on a microwave — sometimes referred to as a child lock — allows cooks to prevent children and other unfamiliar people from using it.

Samsung’s experts said: “Your microwave is equipped with a special child safety program.

“This allows the oven’s control panel to be ‘locked’ so that children or people who are unfamiliar with it cannot accidentally operate it.

“The oven control panel can be locked at any time.”

To lock a Samsung microwave, press the Clock and More/Less buttons simultaneously for about three seconds.

The oven will lock and an “L” will appear on the microwave dashboard.

To unlock the oven and use it normally, press the same buttons again for three seconds.

Amazon, Bosch, GE, LG, Magic Chef, Panasonic, Sharp, and Whirlpool microwave ovens all come with security locks, although the method of “locking” them varies by unit.

The safety lock also prevents accidental button presses when it comes to cleaning the control panel of your microwave.

Many smart microwaves that connect to Alexa, Siri, or Hey Google cannot be controlled via remote app or voice commands when security lock has been activated.

People are also just now realizing that there’s one part of your microwave that you absolutely need to clean – and it’s probably gross.
