Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford will return to his matchday squad for Friday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Leeds head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed on Thursday that Bamford was back in training but explained that winger Crysencio Summerville would be out for a month.
Somerville picked up an ankle injury in the FA Cup third round in Leeds against Cardiff City and the 21-year-old had to be substituted after 59 minutes in the 2-2 draw.
Bamford, meanwhile, has not played for Leeds since October after suffering a groin injury. The 29-year-old had minor surgery on the problem in December.
“Patrick Bamford is back in training and will be in the squad,” said Marsch. “Luis Sinisterra is getting closer but isn’t quite ready yet.
“Crysencio Summerville is out for a month with an ankle injury.”
Marsch also commented on the treatment Summerville and fellow winger, 19-year-old Willy Gnonto, received during their fledgling senior careers.
“The ankle injury (Summerville) he sustained in the Cardiff game is a bit of a talking point for me,” added Marsch.
“Specifically between Cree (Summerville) and Willy (Gnonto) the opponents have been trying to bully them, they’re having a hard time containing them and I don’t think the umpires protected those two well enough.
“That left her vulnerable to injury. I would like referees to protect attacking players a little better.”
Willy Gnonto has already become a foul magnet in the Premier League
