Our neighborhood has the ‘highest female to male ratio in the UK’, we are overrun by single ladies, here’s why

RESIDENTS of a neighborhood “overrun by single women” have revealed why they believe there are more women than men in the area.
Figures show that in a posh area of London, women make up 56.2 per cent of the population – much higher than the national average of 51 per cent.

The people who live in Chelsea Manor & Royal Hospital – a west London neighborhood – believe the area has a number of qualities that attract women.
They believe its “safe” reputation and large number of top beauty shops are enough — not to mention that it’s a stone’s throw from Sloane Square and the Saatchi Gallery.
But Andrea Vreia, owner of Last Drop Wines in the area, thinks there might be another reason women flock to the place.
She told MyLondon: “You have tons of divorced people and a lot of single working women.
“I think a lot of single women come here thinking they’re going to find a wealthy husband — then they find out all the men are divorced and pretty much destitute.”
Andrea said that more than half of the apartments in her block of flats are occupied by single women.
Real estate agent Brendan Roberts, director of Aylesford Estate Agents, believes many women stay in the area after their divorce for the social scene and schools.
He told the outlet: “Men are a lot happier just going somewhere else… [to] suddenly say I don’t need the cost of London, I can get something cheaper.”
But Brendan’s colleague Charlotte Mitchell-Innes argued: “Chelsea is pretty old-fashioned, isn’t it, and in general men die younger than women.
“Maybe there are a lot of older women around here who live alone.”
Lisa, who works at Vivienne Westwood’s fashion shop on King’s Road, said she often sees lots of women walking around.
She added, “At this end of the street, the demographic is high-end women with children.”
According to the 2021 census, the UK population is made up of 51 percent women and girls and 49 percent men and boys.
At Chelsea Manor & Royal Hospital, women and girls make up 56.2 per cent of the population and only 43.8 per cent men and boys.
In another neighborhood, however, concerned residents say the area has been overrun by drug addicts.
The South Wales town of Barry is better known for its seaside fairground and as the setting for the hit BBC TV comedy series Gavin and Stacey.
But Barry is also earning a reputation as a haven for drug addicts and teenagers who leave locals too scared to leave their homes.
Local residents say addicts often hide out in “halfway houses” bought up by opportunistic landlords.
The city was identified as one of five neighborhood crime hotspots in England and Wales in a report by think tank Onward this year. It states that tackling anti-social behavior is crucial for “left behind” areas.
The local economy is in tatters, and businesses are reporting a drop in visitor numbers of up to 60 percent.

On the city’s Holton Road, up to 18 percent of stores are empty, meaning nearly one in five stores are closing.
Many, including two once thriving pubs, have been converted into shelters for the homeless and drug addicts.
