Osimhen aims for Scudetto with Napoli and then Premier League move

ROME: Serie A top scorer Victor Osimhen (Picture) said on Monday he dreams of playing in the English Premier League.
The Nigerian striker, who was in Rome to accept the award for Foreign Sportsman of the Year in Italy from the Foreign Press Association, said he wanted to give Napoli fans a league title but was also looking further ahead.
“A lot of people around the world think the Premier League is the best and strongest league,” said the 24-year-old.
“I’m in one of the best leagues in the world, the Italian Serie A.
“Obviously I’m working so hard to achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League one day, but it’s a process and I just want to keep that momentum going.”
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020.
He has scored 19 league goals this season as Napoli have built a 15-point lead as they chase a first title since the days of Diego Maradona.
“As a football player, you fall in love with football even more when you arrive in Napoli because they base their whole lives on the game and supporting the team,” he said.
“Trying to give them something to remember is a big mission for me.”
Argentine legend Maradona guided the club to their only two titles in 1987 and 1990.
“When you talk about Napoli, the first player that comes to mind for fans is Maradona. Even if we can win the Scudetto we cannot compare to what Maradona has done for this club, he is more than a legend,” said Osimhen.
“We’ve done quite well this season, but I don’t consider myself an icon until we reach the goal.”
When asked about racism in stadiums, he called it a “nasty disease”.
“I’ve been racially abused twice and it’s a bad feeling.” –AFP
