Orange County reported 2,246 more cases and 36 more deaths over the past week – Orange County Register

The OC Health Care Agency reported 2,246 additional reported cases of the coronavirus Jan. 5-12, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 702,870 reported cases since tracking began.

5,441 new cases have been reported in the past two weeks. The county is recording an average of at least 11.3 new cases per day per 100,000 residents.

As of Thursday, 278 people were reported with coronavirus in Orange County hospitals, including 34 who required treatment in an intensive care unit.

The county also reported 36 more deaths Thursday, bringing the number of Orange County residents who have died from the virus to 7,742.

County death data is compiled from death certificates or collected as part of case investigations, and can take weeks to process. The last recorded death was on December 28th.

The data released daily is preliminary and subject to change, officials stress. Further information may become available once the case-by-case investigations are completed. The Orange County Health Care Agency dashboard can be found here.
