Opening hours M&S Easter holiday 2023: when are the shops open?

Most shops and supermarkets will close sometime over the Easter holiday to give staff some much-needed downtime.

M&S will close many of its stores on Sunday, so make a note of their opening hours before the festivities begin.

The swanky supermarket has over 300 stores across the UK and you can find your local store using the store locator tool on their website.

When is M&S open over the bank holidays?

Most M&S ​​stores are open on Good Friday (April 7th) and Easter Monday (April 1st).

All M&S stores will be open as usual on Saturday April 8th, but most stores in England, Scotland and Wales will close on Easter Sunday (April 9th).

Your local M&S opening hours may vary, so check before you visit to avoid disappointment.

M&S stores in petrol stations, for example, are open 24 hours a day.

You can use the locator on the M&S website or app to find a store near you and check their opening times.

Before you travel, check the opening times of your nearest store on the M&S website to make sure it’s open.

Are other shops open on public holidays?

Most other retailers close on Easter Sunday.


Sainsbury’s confirmed 600 of its major stores in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Branches in Scotland are open according to Sunday trading hours – check the opening times of your local shops if you are based there.

However, the supermarket’s 800 convenience stores across the UK will remain open as usual from 7am to 10pm.

The opening times are on Good Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., on Easter Saturday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Easter Monday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.


Aldi will close 890 stores in England and Wales on April 9.

On the surrounding days, the branches are open on Good Friday between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m

Shops are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the day before Easter and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Easter Monday.


Morrisons is lowering the shutters at all its stores in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, but Scottish shops remain open as usual.

For the rest of the weekend, all Morrisons stores are open from 7am to 10pm on Good Friday and 7am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

In the meantime, shops will resume normal opening hours on April 8th, the Saturday before Easter Sunday.


Almost all Asda branches will be closed on April 9th.

The only exceptions to this are Scottish shops, which remain open.

Opening times vary across the country, but for the most part both Good Friday and Easter Saturday have opening hours between 7am and 10pm.

On Easter Monday, shops should be open between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.


Most shops in Iceland will close on April 9th.

Exceptions are Swift, Scottish Core and the Food Warehouse stores – but it’s best to check your local branches if you’re planning on going there.

All shops should be open as usual on the surrounding days, but still check online if your local shop is different.


Co op has said all major shops in England and Wales will be closed on Easter Sunday, subject to government rules.

However, the shops are open as usual on weekends.

Remember to check the website first and don’t forget the additional delivery costs if you decide to order home as well.

Tesco and Lidl have not yet confirmed a change in opening hours for the long Easter weekend.
