Noel Gallagher has criticized Harry Styles and his former colleagues X factor Stars for not working as hard as “real” musicians.
In a new interview, the former Oasis guitarist claimed that all of the artists who rose to fame on Simon Cowell’s TV talent show – which launched Style’s former band One Direction in 2010 – “have nothing to do with music at all.”
“The x factor “It’s a TV show, it’s unrelated to music, it’s unrelated to music at all, and everything that came out of it has nothing to do with music,” Gallagher said Daily Star the newspaper’s WIRED column (via Yahoo!).
Gallagher also claimed that X Factor stars don’t work as hard as “real” musicians after Styles returned to the charts with his new single “As It Was” last week.
“You’re not telling me that Harry Styles is in a room somewhere right now writing a song,” he said. “With every joy he will be surrounded by many girls.”
Gallagher added, “I can assure you he doesn’t have an acoustic guitar trying to write a middle eight for something.”
Styles has released two solo albums: Harry Styles (2017) and Fine Line (2019). Both releases credit Styles as the songwriter for each track.
This isn’t the first time Gallagher has eclipsed Styles and his music. In 2017, he argued that his cat could have written the ex-One Direction star’s first solo single, “Sign Of The Times,” in “about 10 minutes.”
He said Absolute radio: “People my age have let themselves go, they’re fat, bald idiots with fading tattoos. They sit in their garage and write shit like “Sign of the Times” for Harry Styles. Which honestly my cat could have written in about 10 minutes!”
He added: “I have nothing against the song, my wife fell over herself, ‘Have you heard the new Harry Styles song? It’s like Prince,’ I said, ‘without even hearing it, I can assure you, it’s not like Prince!’”
Meanwhile, Style’s new single “As It Was” broke a Spotify record on day one of its release.
As It Was is the first taste of Styles’ forthcoming third studio album Harry’s House, which he announced with a teaser trailer last month. It is scheduled for release on May 20th.
On Saturday (April 2), Spotify confirmed that the single had become the most-streamed song in the United States in a single day, beating a record previously held by Olivia Rodrigo for her single “Drivers License.”
The former One Direction member recently announced additional UK and European dates for his ‘Love On Tour’ stadium shows. The demand for additional performances came after a spike in demand caused Ticketmaster’s website to crash in January. Any remaining tickets can be found here.
