New jobs: India hiring activity grows 16% yoy in March: Naukri JobSpeak

india inc set Employment in March posted 16% year-on-year growth as restrictions were lifted and business momentum picked up, prompting employers to step up their hiring, according to the latest data from online job portal Naukri.com.

March witnessed a sequential increase in hiring activity across all key sectors. Aside from Travel & Hospitality (82%), which has seen steady growth since travel restrictions were eased, other key sectors that have seen an uptick in hiring trends year-on-year are Education (+44%), Real Estate (+30%) , Retail (+28%), BFSI (+22%), IT Software (+14%) and FMCG (+5%). Oil & Gas (-6%) recorded a slight year-on-year decline in March, while healthcare remained flat.

“India is on the path to economic recovery, with all key industries and cities showing signs of continued recovery,” said Pawan Goyal, chief business officer, Naukri.com. “It’s good to see that the sectors hardest hit by the pandemic, such as travel and hospitality, have now bounced back. We believe that with such a growth trajectory, the upward trend in talent demand will continue its dream run in the coming months,” he added.

The Naukri JobSpeak is a monthly index that calculates and records hiring activity based on job listings on the Naukri.com website. The survey is based on data from more than 76,000 customers using Naukri.com.

Metro cities saw positive growth in hiring activity month-on-month, with Kolkata (+42%) topping the charts, followed by Hyderabad (+27%), Mumbai (+25%), Chennai (+24%) and Pune (+23 %). However, Delhi saw a 15% decline.

Among Tier 2 cities, Coimbatore (+29%) saw the highest growth in hiring activity, followed by Kochi (+12%). While there was a decrease in Chandigarh (-9%), Vadodara and Jaipur remained flat in March compared to the same month last year.

Demand for professionals across all skill levels was stable in March, with those aged 16+ experiencing the highest year-on-year growth of 23%. Recruitment activity in the age groups 0-3 years (+21%), 13-16 years (21%), 4-7 years (14%) and 8-12 years (+11%) also increased during the month.
