Music, food lures fans to Long Beach for the Cali Vibes Festival – Orange County Register

Hundreds of music fans descended on Long Beach’s Marina Green Park on Friday afternoon and crowded around the entrance to the annual Cali Vibes Music Festival, waiting for the gates to open.

These passionate guests – many of whom commented on being absent from work or apparently just giving up – showed up early to enjoy the first day of the three-day reggae, rock and hip-hop fest, which was hosted by acts like Rebelution and Dirty Heads, 311, Snoop Dogg, Jack Johnson, Slightly Stoopid and Tash Sultana.

The cooler but sunny and breezy weather, coupled with the upbeat tunes of San Clemente kickoff band Tunnel Vision, provided the relaxed atmosphere of the day. Acts such as Through the Roots, Ozomatli and Kabaka Pyramid drew sizeable crowds to their respective stages, leaving fans dancing and singing along.

Over on the Boomyard stage, up-and-coming acts delivered sets as diverse as the cuisine served in the adjacent food court. The vendors offered authentic Kenyan, Korean and Caribbean dishes. Nash & Proper’s Irie jerk chicken wings and plantains were a surprising and delicious burst of flavor and the heaping baskets of Kogi Korean BBQ fries were a firm favorite.
