Morbius opens $84M box office, Sinister Six plans

the Morbius the living vampire Franchise may become a vampire another day. Despite an abundance of bad reviews, the latest installment in Sony’s Spider-Man-Less cinematic universe, grossed $84 million worldwide in its opening weekend. It is by no means Greatbut is also probably just good enough for Sony to go ahead with its Spider plans to keep working towards a Sinister Six Movie.
The various Hollywood film distributors have very different opinions as to whether $84 million (as reported by meeting) is a solid opening weekend for disease or worse. If you compare it to the last Sony Spider movies, Venom: Let there be carnage, disease looks pathetic; carnage grossed $90 million in its opening weekend in the US alone, and that was just last October. Meanwhile, folks making a living thought Morbius would start out at around $40-50 million.
On the other hand, as a character, Morbius doesn’t have 39.1 percent of 90 percent of the brand awareness that Venom had, and Let there be carnage was not saddled with bad reviews. Also, even Sony thought the film would only gross about $33 million last weekend, despite the film technically exceeding or the studio keeping its expectations so low disease would look like it would surpass them is unknown. Honestly, the best reason to consider $39.1 million a (minor) success is the budget for it disease was earning only $75 million.
While that’s probably not enough for Sony Morbius 2: Vampiric Bugaloo So far, I imagine going ahead with its plans to make the Spider-related solo films is good enough for the company Kraven the Hunterwith Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Mrs. Netz, with Dakota Johnson. I also think it’s just solid enough for Sony to keep working towards Sinister Six Movie that’s been hot to make since he pulled it in Amazing Spider-Man 2despite the unbelievable terrible way disease paved the way there. But if kraven Tanks, and people don’t care about two-thirds of the assumed six (the third being Michael Keaton’s MCU transplant of the Vulture, of course), well, Sony would almost certainly have to adjust its plans. May we humbly propose…?
