Modest ISD Bullying Attack: Boy With Autism Breaks Arm While Classmates Attack Him; 13-year-old arrested

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — A 13-year-old boy has been charged with assault and is accused of hitting a boy with autism and breaking his arm, according to the Harris County District 4 Police Office.

“I kind of accepted that I wasn’t going to force them to stop,” said Carson, an eighth grader at Humble ISD. “It makes no sense. I just accepted it.”

Carson went home injured on September 29 and explained to his mother that a group of children teased him on the bus and, once they got off, started hitting him.

“He gets off the bus. One of them punches him in the face. He tried to walk away. When he walked away, they pushed him to the ground,” said Abbi Hershey, Carson’s mother.

Carson broke his arm in two places and will now have surgery on Wednesday, according to his mother.

“It’s very upsetting, even though they didn’t mean to break his arm. They wanted to hurt his feelings and hit him, and every action has a consequence,” Hershey said. “It’s the result of a bad decision.”

ABC13 confirmed with Constable Mark Herman that a 13-year-old has been arrested and placed in the juvenile system. The teenager was handed over to his parents, but criminal charges have been filed against him.

After the incident, Humble ISD issued a statement: “The district thoroughly investigates allegations of bullying and does not tolerate bullying at school. Parents with concerns should contact the Principal. Additionally, Harris County Precinct 4 is investigating this incident.”

Hershey and her son want others to learn from it and hope schools and parents can help educate their children.

“Try to teach your kids to be a good person,” Carson said.

“Teach them to be kind to everyone, regardless of how they look, how they speak. What their interests are,” Hershey said. “He’s human too.”

Humble ISD is on October vacation, but Carson’s mom has no plans to send him back to school, fearing for her son’s safety.
