‘Miracle’: Video shows puppy crashing onto busy Los Angeles freeway and surviving

(KTLA) – Stunning video captured the moment a pup jumped out of a moving vehicle on a busy Los Angeles freeway – and miraculously survived.

The horrifying incident happened on the 101 near the Topanga exit in Woodland Hills.

“I heard her screaming and then she started falling down the street,” recalled Lilah Cramer, whose family had been raising the 6-month-old puppy named Sophie for the past few weeks.

Video from the Cramer family’s Tesla showed Sophie sticking her head out of the car one afternoon while Ryan Cramer was driving his kids home from school. Then she suddenly jumps out of the window, hits the ground and tumbles toward oncoming freeway traffic.

A large semi truck narrowly misses hitting Sophie as she miraculously gets up and runs to the shoulder of the freeway for safety.

Shortly after Sophie pops out, the video shows Ryan Cramer riding on his shoulder and running with his kids to find Sophie while fearing the worst.

“I jumped out of the car and you could hear the traffic and other things happening,” said Ryan Cramer. “It’s something the video doesn’t show and it was very scary.”

The pup miraculously survived the horrific ordeal and the Cramer family took her to a veterinarian’s office for treatment.

The vet was shocked that Sophie only suffered a broken hip and a few abrasions, let alone survived the ordeal. About two weeks after the fall, Sophie was even able to walk again, her family said.

“It’s like we thought it’s a miracle,” Ryan said through tears. “Without seeing that, it’s hard to understand what she went through.”

“The doctor said it would take about eight weeks for her to recover and she’s doing really well already,” added Dylan Cramer.

The family hopes that by sharing the video of Sophie’s fall, dog owners will be reminded of the importance of pet passenger safety.

“Luckily we had other drivers who were conscious and not on their phones and they were able to stop and help,” Ryan said. “And it was just great that we’re all here.”
