Mikel Arteta slams ‘unacceptable’ Arsenal after Crystal Palace defeat as Gunners fan urges Patrick Vieira to take charge

Arteta has no complaints about the way the result has unfolded but has many issues with the way his team has played.

He told Sky Sports after the game: “First congratulations to Crystal Palace for the game they played.

“I think we made it impossible for ourselves with the way we started. That’s what we talked about before the game – you have to compete on this pitch, you have to be physical, you have to win first and second balls, complete the challenges and then you earn the right to play.

“We deserved it a little bit but we were really bad, we were very inconsistent on the ball and kept giving the ball away.

“It’s unacceptable at this level, so today we have to accept that we didn’t come anywhere near our level, especially in the first half and I apologize to our fans…”

The result saw Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira thwart his former club as Palace moved up to ninth in the Premier League table.

Vieira has enjoyed a very productive first season as Palace manager, having guided them to the FA Cup semi-finals and putting them in a great position to record their best Premier League result to date.

He is impressing fans of his former club and Arsenal supporter Josh said he would love to see Vieira take the hot seat at the Emirates Stadium.

When asked by Sports Bar co-host Jermaine Pennant if he wanted Vieira to replace Arteta if Arsenal don’t finish in the top four, Josh said: “I probably said back in December, I actually said ‘Vieira in’ and jamie [O’Hara] laughed myself out of the situation.

“I wanted Vieira before Arteta… he seems like such a guy and look how he changed this Palace team.

“He’s such a character, he’s probably everything Arsenal lacks in leadership and I think he would make these young lads play.

“I would have always wanted Vieira first.”
