Migrants from Des Plaines: About 80 migrants arrived in the northern suburbs

Nearly 1,200 migrants from Texas drove to the Chicago area last weekend
DES PLAINES, Ill. (WLS) — About 80 migrants arrived in Des Plaines on Saturday.
City leaders said state officials told them the migrants were coming.

Many of the migrants are seeking asylum because of dangerous situations in their home countries, Des Plaines officials said in a press release Saturday.
“I’m proud to represent such a diverse and welcoming community as Des Plaines, and I’m pleased that our state has the capacity and willingness to welcome these asylum seekers with dignity, compassion and open arms,” said Andrew Gozckowski, Mayor of Des Plaines.
As of last weekend, nearly 1,200 migrants from Texas had been brought to the Chicago area.
