Michigan Shoppers Encouraged to ‘Buy Nearby’

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – Shops and stores across Michigan are giving you special incentives to shop local this weekend.

Buy Nearby is an initiative launched Friday by the Michigan Retailers Association.

It’s all about supporting local high street businesses across the state. Participating stores will offer special merchandise and sales.

One lucky shopper also has a chance to win a $250 gift certificate by posting a photo while shopping locally and tagging MRA’s Shop Nearby page on social media. The store where the photo was taken will also win a $250 gift certificate.

“Shopping locally does something that really nothing else can: it sustains jobs in our communities. When you shop from a local retailer, you empower an entrepreneur to do what they love,” said Andrea Bitely, vice president of marketing communications at the MRA.

The Buy Nearby weekend starts on Friday and runs through Sunday. For information on participating retailers and their special offers, visit buynearbymi.com.
