Memorial held in Los Alamitos for firefighter who died in house fire in Rancho Palos Verdes – Orange County Register

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 21 for a Los Angeles County firefighter who died in the Rancho Palos Verdes house fire.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department will host service for Firefighter Jonathan Flagler of San Clemente at Cottonwood Church in Los Alamitos. Flagler was among the crew members from Fire Station 83 who reacted to the fire on January 6.

Authorities said he weathered the smoke and fire while inside and issued a Mayday alert. He battled his injuries at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

Flagler is a 21-year fire veteran who served 19 years in the Vernon Fire Department before moving to the LA County Fire Department in October 2020. He is survived by his wife Jenny and two sons. theirs, Brody and Jack.

Flagler was a “dedicated husband, father, uncle, friend and hero. He is a respected LACoFD firefighter and truly embodies our core values ​​of courage, care, commitment, community, integrity, and teamwork inside and out. work,” the Los Angeles County Fire Department said in a statement. “(He) will miss us all so much – and we will never forget him.”

Since his death, train stations across the state and county have offered condolences. Monument to flowers growing outside his station in Rancho Palos Verdes, and a candlelight vigil was held in San Clemente.

The Flagler family, along with Interim Sheriff Anthony Marrone and IAFF Local 1014 President Dave Gillotte, will attend the memorial.

LA County Fire Department spokesman Sean Ferguson said service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church, 4505 Katella Avenue, but seats are limited. He was unsure of his qualifications and could not be contacted by a church spokesman. The service will also be streamed live on the Los Angeles County Fire Department Facebook page.
