Matt Gaetz’s in-laws are throwing a big fundraiser for Dr. oz

Tonight there’s a fundraising dinner worth at least $5,000 a plate for a New Jersey resident and a Pennsylvania Senate nominee Mehmed Ozand the highest paid event chair is none other than Matt Gaetzs brother-in-law.
You will remember that Gaetz (R-Fl.) is being investigated on suspicion sex traffickingstatutory rape of a 17 year old and obstruction of justiceand supposedly sought a preventive pardon for these crimes. The Santa Ana, California event will be hosted by Palmer luckthe billionaire founder of Oculus VR and brother of Gaetz’ wife Ginger.
Attending a fundraiser hosted by a congressman’s in-laws is certainly a choice for Oz, a candidate that is said a lot of very scary things about women and sex, yourself. The event comes as Oz Faces test after a Jezebel report that he oversaw scientific experiments that led to that Death and torture of more than 300 dogs and hundreds of other animals. vanity fair referred to it as “puppy gate.”
Here’s the flyer for today’s event, which will also feature National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Sen. Rick Scott (Fl.) and candidate for the Nevada State Senate Adam Laxalt:
G/O Media may receive a commission
(Not all the Luckey siblings like Gaetz: Roxanne Luckey called him “weird and creepy‘ and ‘a literal pedophile’ in a series of TikTok videos, saying the congressman pressured an older man into hitting on her when she was 19.)
Neither the Oz nor Fetterman campaigns have responded to Jezebel’s requests for comment.
Patrick Burgwinkle, spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, told Jezebel in a statement, “Rick Scott wants Mehmet Oz in the Senate so he can vote on his disastrous plan to raise taxes on working Americans and threaten Medicare and Social Security. Matt Gaetz’s family wants Mehmet Oz in the Senate because the only test of character Oz cares about is wealth and Oz will happily take care of the Gaetz family and other millionaires like him.”
Sawyer Hackett, a Democratic strategist with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, told Jezebel in a statement, “Whether it’s selling fake weight loss scams, torturing dogs for research, courting Donald Trump, or getting checks from the family of a child trafficker and pedophile collect Matt Gaetz, Dr. Oz will go to dangerous lengths to help himself. This is not the kind of leader we need in the Senate to make decisions on issues that impact the lives of working families.”
Fetterman referenced the lucrative fundraiser in a tweet on Thursday:
“The contrast between these two candidates could not be clearer,” Fetterman communications director Joe Calvello said in a statement. “While Fetterman was Speaking of to union members in Beaver County about how he will fight for workers’ rights, Dr. Oz helpfully reminded voters that he never will. It looks like Oz took off his private jet trying to appear like a normal person, but even then he couldn’t bear the thought of taking the bus. Don’t worry, Oz – all you have to do is pretend you’re a real Pennsylvanian for 33 more days.”
The Fetterman campaign announced that it had risen 22 million dollars in the third quarter of 2022 — a record for a Pennsylvania Senate nominee — and doubled its revenue of $11 million in the second quarter, the previous record. Oz’s campaign brought in $17.2 million in the third quarter, but $7 million of that came from the contestant himself (he made big bucks thanks to Oprah). In the second quarter, Oz raised $5.5 million on a $3.2 million loan. Yes, that means the TV doctor has lent more than $10 million to his campaign in the last six months alone.
Despite Fetterman’s massive fundraising advantage, Oz appears to be close to him in the polls. It could be partly because of Fox News. incessant negative reporting von Fetterman, but also because of absolutely massive external spending by political action committees.
The policy spending database OpenSecrets shows that external groups have dumped more than 70 million dollars in Pennsylvania’s previous general election, the most of any Senate election. From the May 17 through October 4 primary, outside groups spent $66.8 million $39.5 million in pro-republican/anti-democratic ad spend vs $27 million in pro-democracy/anti-republican editions. The Senate Leadership Fund, allied with Mitch McConnell, has spent $26.8 million Attack Fetterman and not advertise a penny for Oz while the Senate majority Democrats have been spending PAC almost 4 million dollars Support for their nominee and $8.7 million for the Attack on Oz. The Republican Party outnumbers the Democrats by more than two to one in this race. If Oz wins in the end, it’s going to be quite the embarrassment for the Democratic leadership.
