Man Utd player ratings: Rashford shines as a main striker against Brentford but it came as no surprise Sancho was sent off

MARCUS RASHFORD’s 15th Premier League goal of the season sank Brentford and returned Manchester United to fourth place.

But a massive night for Jadon Sancho didn’t go too well – as the frontman was substituted in for Wout Weghorst following his recall.

Rashford’s sensational form means he has now scored 28 goals in all competitions.

But there are question marks over Luke Shaw following a fresh injury concern.

This is how the Red Devils performed man for man after a 1-0 home win.

DAVID DE GEA – 7

A moment of madness as he launched a clearance straight at Toney but was relieved when he flew wide.

A few other bad kicks but made up for that with Schade’s crucial second half.

DIOGO DALOT – 6

Received the nod despite Wan Bissaka returning to the squad with ten Hag, admitting there is little choice between the two.

Did what he had to do defensively and effectively connected with Antony on his flank.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 7

Acrobatic handling late in the first half showed what he can do. Pressing for the equalizer, Brentford made another important interception from a cross.

Not his busiest night but did everything that was asked of him.

RAPHAEL VARANE – 6

Converted too easily by Schade but luckily De Gea got him out of jail.

However, he was part of a defensive display that’s vastly improved from the anti-bees horror show earlier in the season.

Luke Shaw- 5

Not in the way the English full-back would have wanted to celebrate his new contract.

Was cautioned for dragging Toney down early and then limped away before the break to be replaced by Malacia.

SCHOTT McTOMINAY – 7

Half-volley just over after good preliminary work by Antony. He saved when he was booked for a wild tackle on Jensen and a key block by Baptiste to thwart a rare Bees attack.

MARCEL SABITZER – 6

Padded header to set Rashford up for the opener.

Showed plenty of energy and forced Raya to make an intelligent save in the second half before being replaced by Fred as ten Hag looked to see the game through.

Anthony – 6

Clever chip in the box to allow the bees to break through – but his radar was off all night as every shot he attempted seemed to go too far – or too high. If only he could use his right foot.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 6

Skipper did his best to create things, opening the game a few times after the break.

Booked for a foul on Damsgaard – fired a shot high over the bar when United looked on for a second.

JADON SANCHO – 5

In addition, a rare start, as the ETH finally left Weghorst out and had a moment or two after the break.

But the United boss and fans want more and no surprise as he was hooked midway through the second half.

MARCUS RASHFORD- 8th

He was given a central role and seemed to enjoy playing with more freedom.

Took the chance when he shot into his 28th of the season – the best tally by a United player since Fergie’s departure. Nice footwork to create an opening early in the second half.

SUBS

Malacia for Shaw, 35 – Did a solid job after replacing the Englishman.

Martial for Sancho, 70 – A lung-ripping run could have done something but didn’t see much of the ball.

I'm a reverse catfish - people who said I looked better before were lying

Fred for Sabitzer, 70 – Rushed his shot and drove it off Rashford 70 after great work

Lindelof – for Antony, 86 – Thrown in to keep United’s lead.
