Manchester City secured their place in the FA Cup semi-finals when they swept aside Southampton with a 4-1 win at St Mary’s.
Raheem Sterling put City ahead after 12 minutes, but just before half-time a comical own goal from Aymeric Laporte put them back ahead.
Kevin De Bruyne restored the lead with a penalty after Gabriel Jesus was fouled in the box by Mohammed Salisu.
A pile driver from Phil Foden extended the away side’s lead, while a clever finish from Riyad Mahrez added some shine to the goal line.
It was a very good day in the office for the six-time cup winners as he scored four goals on the south coast.
talkSPORT’s David Connolly, however, believes there is something missing in Pep Guardiola’s quest for perfection – a focus in attack.
Jack Grealish was tasked with leading Guardiola’s line but endured a frustrating afternoon struggling to get between the goals.
City have been closely linked with Erling Haaland over the summer and while Connolly didn’t directly name Borussia Dortmund’s hotshot, he believes Guardiola’s men would be ‘even more complete’ with someone experienced in playing centrally in their ranks.

“I don’t know what City fans think of the experiment Pep has used this season,” Connolly said in a comment for talkSPORT.
“Say they want to win the Champions League or go into next season, will they do that again?
“Mahrez played as a nine against West Ham but it didn’t quite work out so he was moved outside at half-time and Jesus went in the middle. We saw Foden through the middle, we saw Grealish through the middle, we saw Bernardo Silva through the middle.
“To be an even more complete team, I think they need that focus [up front].”
