A 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly threatening children attending a free outdoor movie at a Seal Beach elementary school, authorities said.
The San Pedro resident told police that children at McGaugh Elementary School on Bolsa Ave. 1698 threw candy at his van, according to Lt. Nick Nicholas of the Seal Beach Police Department.
At some point, the truck driver jumped over the fence and threatened the children, police said. He was sent to police jail and later released on bail, Nicholas said.
Officers were dispatched to the school around 7:45 p.m. Friday, where more than 100 parents and children attended a free outdoor cinema.
Police arrested the man as he drove away in his truck.
Police Chief Phillip Gonshak called what happened “an isolated case”.
He said, “The students did the right thing by notifying the adults immediately, and the adults should be commended for calling 911 quickly.”
The department asked anyone with information to call them at 562-799-4100.
