Man arrested after roommate fatally shot during fight, Kerr County lawmakers say

A central Texas man has been arrested after his roommate was fatally shot in Ingram over the weekend, according to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office.

KCSO said MPs received a call Sunday midday about the shooting in the 200 block of Beaver Road.

When paramedics arrived, they found Dennis Allen Crawford, Jr., 57, with a gunshot wound, MPs said in a press release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect in the shooting, Brad Rick Way, 52, of Ingram, was arrested at the scene, according to the KCSO. He has since been sentenced to the Kerr County Jail for murder.

The press release said Crawford and Way were apparently roommates and had a verbal altercation on Sunday morning. That argument led to a fight, and at one point shots rang out, according to MPs.

A shot was fired at point-blank range, hitting Crawford.

MPs believe alcohol was involved, but the incident remains under investigation.

“We are saddened by this senseless loss of life in our county,” Sheriff Larry Leitha said in the press release. “All too often, disagreements escalate and spiral out of control. In this case, either party could have walked away and defuse the situation before deadly force was used. This result should not have happened.”

A bond amount has not yet been set for Way.
