Man, 29, dead and two others rushed to hospital after being hit by a van on a Scottish road

A MAN has died and two others were taken to hospital after being hit by a van.
The fatal collision happened around 10.50am yesterday morning on the busy A726 road in Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

Rescue workers raced to the Glasgow Road crash site after reports of the crash were received.
Police were called after three pedestrians, a man and two women, were hit by the van.
Tragically, a 29-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 52-year-old woman was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.


Medical staff have described her condition as serious but stable.
A 24-year-old woman was also taken to Wishaw General Hospital in North Lanarkshire.
The woman has since been released.
Officials have confirmed that the driver of the van, a 47-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the alleged incident.
He was released pending further investigation.
The road was closed for about four hours and 45 minutes while officers conducted their investigation into the accident.
It has since reopened.
Police have launched an investigation to clarify the full circumstances behind the alleged incident.
They have urged anyone with information or anyone who may have seen anything to come forward and speak to officers.
They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who has dashcam footage of the area at the time of the alleged incident.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Although a number of people have assisted at this point, we would still be asking if there were any witnesses to the accident or any motorists with dashcam footage capturing the crash in order to get in touch with police.
“Please call officers on 101 and quote the reference number 1300 from Saturday April 1, 2023.”
